Make a Report

For volunteers who joined the project before November 2023, you can continue to use the Marine Fauna Sightings (MFS) App to record all dolphin reports. If you want some extra help to use the new app to Make a Report, download the step-by-step guide here. If you want some extra help to Undertake a Survey, download the step-by-step guides here.

For volunteers who do not have the app or have an Android smartphone and are joining us from November 2023, you can submit your reports via the online monitoring form below.

Resting (resting dolphins travel very slowly, can regularly be observed lying still at the surface (snagging), but can also spend long periods of time under the water. Resting dolphins within a group typically are tightly groups, swim very slowly eitherin a straight line or meandering, and surface and dive within a few seconds of each other)

Travelling (dolphins are engaged in directed swimming in an approximate straight line, usually at moderate speed. Dolphins travelling in a group generally travel below the surface together and come up to take several breaths together)

Socialising (dolphins can be seen in physical contact, such as petting, rubbing, striking, mounting, and biting one another. These are often accompanied by chasing each other, leaping and splashing)

Foraging and Feeding (dolphins can be observed searching for, chasing, catching prey or with prey in their mouths. When searching, dolphins in a group are often observed diving with their bodies facing different directions from one another. When targeting fish, dolphins may be seen either individually, or as a group swimming fast, chasing, leaping, or surfacing rapidly in pursuit of fish (that may also be observed active at the surface. Birds are often also observed feeding in the area.
