Thank you to everyone who took part in our dolphin naming competition to help us find the perfect name for Claw’s new calf. We had some great options to choose from and a special thanks to Phyllis Elliott for the winning name suggestion.
We know that calf mortality rate is high (around 50%), so we are asking everyone to do what they can to help keep these precious babies safe:
keep your distance (100m where possible) no matter the vessel you are on and never chase after the dolphins.
keep your distance while swimming (50m)
do not offer food or try to feed dolphins, it makes them sick and increases their risk of entanglements and boat strikes
do not touch them, you can spread your germs.
Reel in your line if dolphins’ approach, and always dispose of rubbish responsibly
