Partners
The River Guardians program relies on partnerships with local and State governments, foreshore community groups, indigenous people, and local businesses to run successfully.
The program is delivered by the Swan River Trust, the State Government agency set up to protect and enhance the ecological health and long-term community benefit of the Swan Canning Riverpark.
Funding to develop the program was provided by the Gaming Community Trust courtesy of the Department of Racing, Gaming and Liquor and ongoing support is provided by the Swan River Trust and our corporate partners.
The following project partners work with us to provide the Perth community and River Guardians members with a special connection to the Swan Canning Riverpark through member benefits, volunteer opportunities and information sharing.
Burswood Park Authority
The Burswood Park Authority helps fund the free Great Gardens workshops that are delivered across the Swan Canning Catchment each year and enjoyed by thousands of Perth residents.
Federal Government - Caring for our Country
The River Guardians River Wise Training course and Dolphin Watch volunteer training are funded through a partnership between the Swan River Trust and the Australian Government’s ‘Caring for our Country’ Program to implement the Swan Canning Water Quality Improvement Plan.
Murdoch University
Dr Hugh Finn and Dr Carly Holyoake from Murdoch University along with Dr Chandra Salgado-Kent from Curtin University are leading the research into Perth’s Swan River dolphin community and investigating how environmental changes in the river, and human activities, can affect the dolphin community. The research builds on previous research conducted in 2002-03. It works with the Trust’s River Guardians Dolphin Watch project to monitor the movement and behaviour of the dolphins.
