The Swan and Canning rivers provide a beautiful backdrop to our events all year round. Here is a list of the major events happening in coming months.

Event:Friends of Mary Carroll - Eco Walks and Talks 2010

General information

  • All walks commence near car park in Eudoria Street, Gosnells
  • All walks are on paths or park ground – suitable for wheel chairs/ prams
  • Universal toilets available
  • All walks suitable for all ages and ability
  • Clothing to suit weather, closed in shoes
  • Binoculars available on all walks

Water Discovery
Date: Saturday, August 28th
Time: 9am – 11am
Presenter: Amy from SERCUL

Join with local expert to see, hear our local frogs.  Take a walk, check out their habitat then scoop the waters to see what else lurks there. Discuss findings over a cuppa.

Talk will be about our local frogs. Samples of local frogs will be available to see. Scooping will produce macro invertebrates.

Breakfast in the Park

Enjoy a walk, while watching waterbirds at play. Find difference between each of these unique creatures then enjoy healthy breakfast listening to the song birds.

Walk with Nature
Date: Sunday, October 31st
Time: 10:00am - 12:00pm

Enjoy a stroll around the lake to discover  the biodiversity of a wetland with naturalist extraordinaire Eric McCrum.  Discuss our finding over a light lunch. Please note it is the year of Biodiversity. Eric will discover and talk about birds, insects, skinks , plants, fungi, + and how they all connect.


Night Stalks
Date: Friday, November 26th
Time: 7pm - 9:30pm

Marc Lane

Join local naturalist Marc Lane for sights and sounds of a wetland at night. Be surprised by the jewels of the night and keep an eye out for bat, turtles, frogs and more.

We will have a short walk in daylight and check out some waterbirds  before heading off in darkness to find we hope all of the above  - no guarantees as depends on the night.
Torches and mosquito repellent required.

  • Do you want to increase the effectiveness of the way you communicate about waste and waste practices?

If you’ve said ‘Yes’ to any one of these questions, then this is your opportunity to join forces with other educators and stakeholders, be motivated by inspirational speakers passionate about social change and to collaborate in the planning for the future of waste education in Western Australia…

Our guest speakers will provide local, international and global perspectives on the critical role of education in bringing about change:

  • Dr Carmen Lawrence (Professorial Fellow and Director of the Centre for the Study of Social Change, School of Psychology, University of Western Australia) will speak about the processes most likely to achieve positive social change.
  • Catherine Doran (former Head of Education and Community - UK ‘Waste Watch’) will speak about this successful waste education program and how they achieved change.
  • Roger Farley (Director, Strategic Communications, Office of Road Safety) will provide examples of strategies used to achieve change from the road safety perspective.

Following the presentations, you will have the opportunity to participate in a professionally facilitated workshop where you can have your say.
