About us
River Guardians keep the rivers healthy.

Membership gives you new opportunities to connect with other friends of the Swan and Canning rivers from Fremantle to Guildford, Muchea and to Armadale, and also to help protect and restore the rivers and their foreshores.

Members share ideas and knowledge, take part in river events, enjoy new networks and receive training to better understand the rivers and their cultural heritage, and how everyone can help to look after them. Free events, networking, volunteering and training opportunities are provided. Members can be involved as little or as much as they would like.

River Guardians are identified by a colourful black swan symbol because they are the iconic guardians of our rivers.

Swan and Canning Rivers Foundation

The Swan and Canning Rivers Foundation was announced by the Environment Minister in June 2008. It is to be established under the Swan and Canning Rivers Management Act 2006 to attract public donations for the rivers.

During 2009, part of the River Guardians membership fees will fund projects through the Foundation that protect and benefit the Swan and Canning rivers.

Partners

The River Guardians Program relies on partnerships with local and State governments, foreshore community groups, indigenous people, and businesses to run successfully.

The program is delivered by the Swan River Trust, the State Government agency set up to protect and enhance the ecological health and long-term community benefit of the Swan Canning river system. The Trust works with local, State and Commonwealth governments and the community to achieve these outcomes.

Funding to develop the program was provided by the Gaming Community Trust courtesy of the Department of Racing, Gaming and Liquor and ongoing support will be provided by the Swan River Trust.

Contact us if you would like to work in partnership with the River Guardians Program. For our partners contact details visit the links page.
